We have a new ministry at Harvest. It is named Bridging Grace and Truth.
A little over two years ago a family member shared with us that they are gay. As we looked for help, support and wisdom to process all that happens, it was a struggle to find the help and support that lined up with what we believe God says. Eventually, God sent us a lifeline at a church on the west side. It is a group where we have learned a lot about walking this unique journey. We didn’t realize all the incorrect assumptions and views we had, but we learned and still are. In this group we are able to share everything without worry of judgment. People there encourage us and truly understand our hearts. We are still attending it for almost 2 years now.
We see a huge need here in our churches and community for a support group for any LGBT+ identifying person as well as the family or friend of someone who identifies as LGBT+. This group is based on God’s Word and operates in line with our church doctrine, beliefs AND OUR CORE FOCUS OF WELCOMING AND CARING FOR THE WOUNDED AND HURTING.
LGBT+ is an acronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender. It also goes beyond this acronym and is often used to encompass any sexual orientations or gender identities that do not correspond to heterosexual norms.
God is bringing families across our personal path who are processing a loved one who is LGBT+ or they themselves are. The deep need to be able to pour your heart and concerns out is real and should have attention.
If we can share what God has taught us and how He has changed us, we consider it our ministry to do that. It is a daily thing to know when to share Truth and when to give Grace.
We believe no family should feel scared and ashamed to talk about their loved one who identifies as LGBT+, and no LGBT+ should be ashamed to share their struggles either.
Our group encompasses both LGBT+ as well as families and friends of an LGBT+ loved one who would like to have support. Each meeting we gather together for a time of sharing, learning and prayer as we strive to better know and understand each other. All group meetings and one-on-one conversations are held in confidence, and we ask anyone who attends to abide by and respect this principle.
We invite you to reach out to us with any questions or comments. Kelly and I will be in the CONNECTION CENTER to listen and answer any questions you may have. We are available whenever you need us. Our contact information is below.
We love you and are looking forward to learning your story and sharing ours, as we journey together!
We meet the second Thursday of each month at 7 PM in the pre-school room which is the last room in the nursery hallway.
